I wanted to share with you a cool experience I had.

Do you remember this series of shots my love did in New York? (If not, check them out here)

When he posted them on his blog a journalist of Paulette, a 100% collaborative feminine magazine, offered him to tell the story of this trip in a 4-page article in the print version of the magazine.

They need a 1200-word article… Where do we begin? Especially that all this happens 6 months after our trip. And at the time we hadn’t planned on writing an article about it!

First step: get a closer look at this magazine (I rarely buy any). I only heard good things about it. That must be a good sign! So I bought the November issue to get a better sense of the tone of voice and style they are after…

And then comes the time at which we need to start writing…
After the famous « white page » phase we started to gather our thoughts. We decided to describe a city tour that would allow to show as many things and places we wanted to talk about and for which we had pictures to illustrate.
After my Mum proofread it, we sent this first piece.

The journalist took a few days to get back to us asking if we could make it a little bit more personal. That’s the only direction we had. We first tried to change the original piece but it wasn’t coming right. So we started from scratch and this time we came up with two versions (the deadline to deliver the article was getting close and we didn’t want to miss such a great opportunity simply because we might have misinterpreted the direction).

This time she’s happy even if she tells us that she’ll make slight changes (at that point I was a little bit disappointed after all that time that we spent writing it…but hey, we are no journalist right?). At the end, even if there are a couple of mistakes in her « changes » and in the additions that the magazine wanted to make (they forget some credits, an important detail for my dear photographer, or the fact that they decided not to put my name as a co-author of the article) the exercise was really nice.

I enjoyed it so much that I’m considering doing a booklet for every vacation where I’d put my love’s nice shots and would write a short article. Simply for us, to have a nice souvenir. And maybe we’ll have the opportunity to get other publications in magazines…Who knows ;)

Well, now you can hurry and buy the March issue of the Paulette magazine to read our article and enjoy the nice pictures of my husband!
